Makes a change

Makes a change from other people reporting a good variety of moths and me not catching much - last night several friends reported a disappointing night with little new while I caught 5 new moths for the year.  Mind you, they were all very common species, and there wasn't much else, but still, 5 new moths for the year when you trap every day still feels good.

The new moths for the year were White-shouldered House-moth Endrosis sarcitrella, Red Twin-spot Carpet, 2 Pale Tussocks, Bright-line Brown-eye and Spectacle.

More moths were new for the year than not: the rest were Brindled Pug, Swallow Prominent, Hebrew Character and Early Grey.

Also gen detted a micro Dave brought me round to check.  It was pretty worn so not an easy ID based on external features.  Having said that, I did tentatively arrive at what turned out to be the correct ID: Scarce Cosmet Mompha jurassicella.  Living up to its common name (love them or loathe them) there are very few Norfolk records of this species, so he done well, again.
